Ecuador is truly amazing…beaches, volcanoes, jungles, rivers! Leaving the bike at our new “home away from home,” Casa Helbling, we flew to Baltra to begin a week aboard the Angelito I, a 16 passenger boat built in the Galapagos. Maja, our wonderful guide for the week, met us and gave the ground rules: “look, but don’t touch” as we snapped pictures of the sea lions.
The sea lions were just the beginning,…we toured Seymour, Santiao, Bartolome, Genovesa, Rabida, Santa Cruz, Espanola, and Santa Fe and were treated to close-ups with tortoises, sea turtles, penguins, seals, dolphins, land and marine iguanas, lava lizards, blue-footed boobies, and tropical fish. The animals have no predators or fear of humans.
It was an amazing experience to hike and snorkel, and guiding was more of a passion for Maja than a job. We also enjoyed great, fresh food and a wonderful, international group.
