Violence in Panajacle

Returned from a tour of Lake Atitlan yesterday and learned that 4 people that had started to shakedown some store owners for “protection” and were caught by the town folks. A guy was beaten to death and the town started to look for 3 women involved in the shakedown. The local police arrive before the town could beat the other 3 people. This was going on live about 5 blocks from my hotel. Now the town people are accusing the police of being involved, too, and burned several police cars.
The next day, before leaving town, we walked up to the site of the action because we heard the dead body was still in the street. All we found were the charred police cars.
