Being a Ghost

Attention: open in a new window. PrintE-mail

I spent 3 weeks in San Cristobal de las Casas attending the Spanish language school, Instituto Jovel. For those looking for a good school, this one is highly recommended. Most of the students there had been to other schools and they said this one was the best.

San Cristobal was my first major stop and I looked forward to spending some time in one city. Up to this point, I arrived in towns in the early afternoon, found a place to stay, had dinner and went to bed. Even if I stayed for two days, met a person or two, had a short conversation on the sidewalk or over a coffee, in the end, I would pack up in the morning and head out of town. I started thinking of this as being a ghost. One moment you are there, then you are gone. Did the people really meet you? What town was it that had that great taco stand? Where is the next town going to be that you appear for a time and then disappear?

San Cristobal would be a place to stop for awhile and try to learn Spanish, as well as allow some time to stop being a ghost.
