USA Withdrawal

So, today I took off for San Cristobal; a nice 380 mile ride. I am expecting it to take two days. Shortly after leaving Oaxaca, I entered the mountains. I’ve learned that when you cross a mountain range here in Mexico, the grin factor increases. Yep, it was awesome. I was thinking I should stop and take a picture, but then I’d see a great set of twisties and say, “ok, after this set”. Well. 340 miles later I’m still thinking I’ll stop and try and take some picture (actually, I did stop but it was to pee; may have taken a picture or two but will need to see if they turned out).
So, out of 380 miles, I’d say 280 were simply fantastic mountain roads. The other were 90+ mph straights. It was like the Angeles Crest highway without cars, cops, or LA. Oh, and way longer……simply non-stop twisties.
USA Withdrawal? Yeah, well about 40 miles short of San Cristobal I see this Howard Johnson hotel. A quick U-turn and I’m sitting in an air conditioned room finishing the last of my Don Agave Mezcal Reposado. I step outside to grab a bite to eat and across the street is an Applebee’s. Maybe it was the thought that the next two weeks will be spent immersed in learning Spanish or maybe it was being on the road for 4 weeks, but the hamburger was terrific.
Tomorrow it’s a short 50 mile ride to San Cristobal on what looks like another totally awesome road!!

M-m-m-m...I miss Mexican food!
Eat some for me.
