Here are some rides that are in the within striking distance of the '09 West Coast Madness
Dooley Mountain Hwy
A short 36 mile set of twisties off Hwy 7. I rode this once in the rain so I was unable to enjoy it to its fullest.
US 395
A must-do! I take this road every time I can. It's 117 mile from Mt Vernon to Pendleton but you can turn off to Uliah and ride down to Granite. If you'd rather relax instead of riding to Granite, continue on Hwy 244 past Uliah and soak in the Lehman Hot Springs.
Little Alps
I first rode this 52 mile road a few years ago. I had to ride through about a mile of heavy gravel due to construction but it was worth it. If you like tight technical roads, that can be a little dirty, you'll like Little Alps.
Granite
This is also a great road that runs over the Elkhorn Mountains. About 18 miles after turning off Hwy 7 onto Hwy 220 (Elkhorn Dive Scenic Byway), you reach the (former) ghost town of Granite. Continue north until you get to the North Fork John Day Campground and then take Forest Service Road 52 (Blue Mountains Scenic Byway) to Uliah. Hwy7 to Uliah is 71 miles.
